Why Author Identity Matters IDENTITY
Reliable author identification is essential for research integrity.
Scholarly publishing is increasingly challenged by fabricated author identities, paper mills, guest authorship, ghost authorship, fraudulent affiliations, and manipulated peer review.
Reliable author identification has therefore become an essential component of research integrity.
SJORANM considers verified author identity an important safeguard for protecting authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and the scientific record itself.
Why SJORANM Requires Authenticated ORCID iDs ORCID iD
Manual entry is not enough.
SJORANM requires every listed author, including all co-authors, to authenticate their identity using their own ORCID iD before a manuscript can enter the peer review process.
Authentication must be performed directly through the official ORCID authorization system. This ensures that the ORCID iD genuinely belongs to the respective author and has not simply been entered manually by another person.
Who Must Authenticate? ALL AUTHORS
AUTHORS
All authors must authenticate personally.
All authors listed on a manuscript must authenticate their own ORCID iD. This includes the first author, the corresponding author, senior authors, and all co-authors.
No author, editor, or third party may enter or authenticate an ORCID iD on behalf of another author.
How ORCID Authentication Works LOGIN
Authentication must happen through ORCID itself.
Each author must log in through ORCID and authorize the connection between their ORCID iD and their SJORANM author profile.
ORCID registration is free of charge and can be completed within a few minutes.
This process confirms that the ORCID iD is controlled by the author and was not merely typed into a submission form.
What Happens if Authentication Is Missing? REQUIRED
REQUIRED
Peer review starts only after complete author authentication.
A manuscript cannot proceed to peer review until all listed authors have successfully authenticated their own ORCID iD.
If ORCID authentication remains incomplete, SJORANM may request correction of the author information, delay the review process, or decline further processing of the submission.
Privacy and Data Protection PRIVACY
CARE
ORCID authentication is used only for author identification and publication integrity.
SJORANM uses ORCID authentication solely for author identification, transparency, and publication integrity.
The journal does not use ORCID authentication for commercial profiling or unrelated data processing.
Frequently Asked Questions FAQ
Is ORCID free of charge?
Yes. ORCID registration and use are free for researchers.
Does every co-author need an ORCID iD?
Yes. Every listed author, including all co-authors, must authenticate their own ORCID iD.
Can the corresponding author enter ORCID iDs for all co-authors?
No. The corresponding author may provide author information during submission, but each author must personally authenticate their own ORCID iD through the official ORCID system.
Is manually entering an ORCID iD sufficient?
No. A manually entered ORCID iD does not prove that the iD belongs to the listed author. SJORANM requires authenticated ORCID iDs.
Can a manuscript enter peer review before all authors are authenticated?
No. The peer review process can only begin after all listed authors have completed ORCID authentication.
Why does SJORANM require this?
This policy supports transparency, accountability, and protection against publication fraud, including fake authorship, paper mills, fraudulent affiliations, and manipulated peer review.
